THE PARLOR

The Parlor is a new, place-based extension of the KALMA brand focusing on initiatives of community care around death, dying and grief. Its name is a reference to funeral parlors, and inspired by the etymology of the word “parlor”—a place for speaking.

The Parlor is a place for exploring the questions: How do we live with death? And what does it mean to live and die well? Our programming focuses on how we live with an awareness of our own mortality and that of those we love, and how this knowledge shapes our everyday decisions about who we are and what we do.

KALMA opening up in town breathes life into the dream of having a space to gather creatively in community around end of life education, grief support, and reflection around our own mortality. I love the full spectrum of people KALMA speaks to and draws in - from folks working in death care to artists working with themes around death + grief, to people who've been nervous but curious to talk about such things and are looking for an invite to do so.

May their doors opening also open the door to many robust conversations in our community.
